Foreshortening is closely linked with perspective, although it usually comes into play when drawing the figure (or animals). The effect of foreshortening can be very difficult to achieve convincingly. You have to draw what you see, not what you think it should look like.

Painted especially as a gift on stretched canvas, and being inspired by the colours in a particular room of the house where it may hang, I thoroughly enjoyed painting this 25x30 cm contemporary image with our celebrating friends in mind.
